To the desert!

(15/11/2011)

We spent today doing as little as possible (still here at Anita and Chris in Khartoum), but popped out during the afternoon to stock up on supplies and buy oil for the Motomias. When we returned I quickly serviced both bikes, very proud not spilling a single drop this time (and that with a puppy tugging at my hair!). I had to get it right at least once, since we’ve done 12 oil changes on the trip so far (six on each bike).

We reached a milestone with the blog during the past few days: We have had more than 10 000 unique visitors on our site! We also featured in the Eastern Cape Burger today. It is weird to think we’ve come this far and are so close to our final destination. I’ve included an updated map of the trip so far:

We’ve been very fortunate on the trip so far, not having any hold-ups and sorting out admin as we go without too much delays, but when we got to Khartoum we realised we cannot get cash due to the sanctions against Sudan. Luckily between Chris (where we stay) and my father the we managed to organise some dollars by tranfering funds all over the world. Thanks guys!

Tomorrow we’ll be heading North towards Atbara and plan so camp under the stars somewhere close to the Meroe pyramids. We been looking forward to this for some time! We’ll try our best to keep the blog updated as often as possible, so please keep checking in.

Good night
