(Fake) sheep skin seats in the making

Today our bikes went for their first proper service before we hit the road on Monday. Peter and Francois also discussed which extra parts we will need to take along on the journey. It’s always a juggle with space and weight, which I suppose is a good thing because you really get perspective on what you “want” to take with and what you really “need”. Please note I still have to pack my clothes for the trip, so wish me luck!

Tonight’s challenge was to tackle the fake sheep skin seats for our bikes. Luckily my mother is visiting us at the moment so I seized the opportunity to get in some expert help. It started off with a blonde moment, realising that the bikes were in for a service and we forgot to take the seats measurements before… But a boer makes a plan and we grabbed my old Motomia (the one I used in our Around SA trip) and we debated the best way to tackle the seats and off we started!

But alas, while the sewing machine was still on its first seam, a mechanical breakdown of some sorts and stuck it was! We tried to repair it, but to no avail. The only other way to go forward was by hand… eish! It will still be a while before we can show you the final product, so watch this space. At least Brandy our dog is happy as she finally got hold of the leftover piece of fur which she was eyeing all week. A special thanks to my mother tonight for her patience with the sewing, all I could do was top up her glass with good wine :o)
