Where it all started… and the way forward

One and a half years ago we embarked on a wonderful trip around South Africa to first prove that one doesn’t need loads of money and a fancy bike to tour the country. A week before our departure we walked into a shop and bought two brand new 125cc Motomia Enzo’s for R5,000 each and with that we were set to leave the next week. On this trip we covered approximately 5 800 kilometres over 19 days starting in the Cape Winelands, up the West Coast, all the way to Mussina hugging the Botswana border, before heading back past Swaziland, through the Wild Coast and the Baviaanskloof and returning to Stellenbosch. We only experienced one problem on the trip – a flat tyre, which was fixed very easily and since then we have been convinced that the Motomias can do anything! A few months after this we also completed an off-road trip through the West Coast and Cederberg area successfully with the 125cc’s still going strong. Thus, when we started thinking about taking on our Cape to Cairo adventure, it was a logical choice for us to look at the latest Motomia range again. A few Saturdays ago we visited the Motomia shop in Tygervalley and spotted a little 200cc Motomia cruiser and felt that it would be perfect for our next big adventure…

With three months to go before we leave for our trip to cross some of the most beautiful parts of Africa, we have now started to seriously plan our trip. I have been gearing up our blog, while Francois has been doing some research on the trip plan, bikes and of course our budget! Those of you that know us will know that planning is not our strong point and we have generally survived by winging it, but this time our enormous amount of excitement for this African trip has kickstarted our desire to plan!
